Vancouver International Airport Apron Development

Hatch Mott MacDonald provided design engineering and resident supervision services for the construction of the new aircraft-parking apron for the new international terminal building at Vancouver International Airport. The project was part of the terminal and runway redevelopment at the airport. The detailed services included:
  • Preparation of detailed designs and tender documents for all apron civil and electrical works;
  • Cost estimating services for the apron works; and
  • Assistance to the Airport Authority during evaluation of tenders

Additional planning services included the preparation of apron master plan for terminal building expansion to year 2025, pavement design for channelised B747-400 traffic including provision for new large aircraft under ultralow subgrade conditions. Our services also included coordination of all surface and subsurface apron penetrations (electrical and communication ducts, storm and sanitary services, hydrant refuelling system and pumping stations) and resident supervision of apron construction including site inspection and progress monitoring as well as engineering management of the airside component.
