Singapore Changi Airport Low Cost Carrier Terminal
Low Cost Carriers [LCCs] are now a key feature of world air transport. In Europe they already account for 25% or more of all air passengers and 10% world-wide. They are amongst the most profitable and efficient airlines in the world.
Singapore handles some 26 million passengers today of which 13 million are from the South East Asian region. Geographically, Singapore is at the southern extremity of the major potential intra-regional LCC market opportunity with the areas with the greatest potential growth being further away, in India and China. LCCs have the potential to contribute some 10% of total Singapore traffic, or 20% of the South East Asian market.
Mott MacDonald were employed by the Civil Aviation Authority Singapore to undertake a study into the potential impact that the growth of LCCs in Singapore could have on the economy and to advise as to the best way to maximise their positive benefits in the future. This project made use of the varied skills within the aviation team of Mott MacDonald, including air traffic forecasting, aviation economics, aviation strategy and revenue forecasting.
