Heathrow Terminal 5 - Structural Design
Terminal 5 at London Heathrow Airport is the single largest airport passenger terminal in Europe with a capacity of approximately 35 million passengers per year. The terminal complex consists of a primary passenger processing building with three satellite buildings connected to the main structure with underground people mover systems, baggage tunnels and airside road tunnels.
The terminal is connected into London’s primary public transport network through extension of the heavy rail (Heathrow Express) and the Piccadilly Line of the London Underground. Mott MacDonald initiated the design for these primary sub-surface transport links, in addition to the airside road tunnels.
Mott MacDonald undertook the environmental and construction impact assessment for the total Terminal 5 development during the process of the public enquiry. We also commenced the design management and structural engineering design of the £500m substructure of Terminal 5.
