Japan MLIT - International Airports Study
To assist MLIT to design appropriate regulatory and marketing structures to address the problem of each of their airports, Mott MacDonald was asked to conduct a study of a selection of international airports to determine best global practice, focusing on two key aspects:
- an examination of the differing approaches that governments use in setting traffic distribution rules at cities with two or more airports; and
- a study of marketing and other measures adopted by a range of successful global hub airports in Asia and Europe.
In addition, Mott was asked;
- to look at the specific aspects of marketing to all-cargo airlines;
- to examine the role of airport pricing; and
- to examine the economic impact of hub airport operations upon the cities and areas served by the airports.
From these various studies, Mott MacDonald was asked to draw conclusions of relevance to MLIT given the specific requirements of the Ministry for each of the three Japanese airport systems of Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.
